Course Reflective Narrative
In Intro to Advanced Communication there were many things that we learned that were beneficial. We learned ways to communicate in Japanese casually and professionally and learnt respect form, enabling us to speak professionally in a business or formal setting. We also learned many Kanji, further enabling us to write and read more efficiently. We had discussions in Japanese about different social issues which helped improve our ability to express our opinions and ideas. My Final Presentation script for this class was for an oral presentation making use of keigo and humble form and other grammar points that we learned during this semester. We learned polite, humble, and respect form, which will assist us in the future and in future classes, with speaking more professionally and assist us with our studies in our upper division classes. It was very interesting for me to try and express my opinions and thoughts in Japanese, especially about social issues, which are difficult to discuss even in my own native language of English. I would like to further improve my reading, listening comprehension, and speaking abilities. Some ways that I intend to help my improvement is to read and listen to a variety of things. For improving my listening comprehension, I intend to watch Japanese television shows in order to understand what I hear. For my reading comprehension, I intend to try reading Japanese newspapers, even if I can only understand part of it. Another thing that I would like to improve on is my vocabulary. One way that I can accomplish this is by studying my kanji and vocab and going over them again, and doing some kind of study every day in order to keep it fresh in my mind.
