JAPN 310 - Japanese Cinema
Course Description
An introductory scrutiny of major Japanese directors and genres with attention to film composition, choices of subject and character, ideas of the cinematic, and the relationship of cinema to Japanese culture and society. Students will analyze and critique films. Discussion of films will deal with the production of their historical, social, and cultural context, as well as issues dealing with popular culture and equity. Taught in English.

Reflective Narrative
In this class we watched and analyzed Japanese movies buy famous Japanese directors. Some of my favorite moves were Rashomon, Hidden Fortress, and Yojimbo by Akira Kurosawa. The students would separate into groups and discuss technical aspects of the movies as well as the plot and characters of the movies. These movies also served to help me gain a greater insight into Japanese culture, which aids me in completing my Major. In the future, I'd like to see more historical Japanese movies, as I have fallen in love with the black and white stories.
This class fulfills MLO2 for Japanese culture. For our final I wrote an essay, which is linked below.
